This Spanish language edition of Gryphon’s popular, award-winning title Buddy Unchained brings Buddy’s experience to a new audience. With more than 37 million speakers, Spanish is by far the most spoken non-English language in the U.S. today among all ages. It is also one of the fastest growing.

This edition offers children, parents, teachers, librarians, and humane educators a way to reach new audiences in the United States and abroad, to promote empathy and understanding, and to interest young people in taking action when they see an animal in need.

Teachers around the country use Buddy Unchained for character and critical thinking skill development and can now do the same with Rufo liberado.

PRAISE FOR Rufo liberado:
“Ah, what a wonderful book! Rufo liberado’s sparse text and charming illustrations are perfect for getting across his story: that of an unloved and ignored mixed-breed dog who, thanks to caring people, finally finds an affectionate family. This book is a ‘must read’ for schools and libraries. Rufo's tale is that of many dogs and other animals that need a good home but have no way of communicating that need. The Gryphon Press really is a voice for the voiceless.
—Judy Goldman, author of Whiskers, Tails and Wings-Animal Folktales from Mexico, Uncle Monarch and the Day of the Dead, and Baak

Daisy Bix, aka Emilie Buchwald, lives in Minneapolis, MN. She is the author of At the Dog Park with Sam and Lucy (The Gryphon Press), and two award-winning children's novels, Gildaen and Floramel and Esteban (Harcourt Brace) Buchwald was the founding copublisher/editor of Milkweed Editions and is the publisher of The Gryphon Press. Her awards include the National Book Critics Circle Lifetime Achievement Award (2008).

Joe Hyatt’s dog portraits are in private collections throughout the United States. He is also the illustrator of Maggie's Second Chance(The Gryphon Press, 2011). He and his wife and their (rescued) dogs live in Northern California.
