The Gryphon Press is dedicated to publishing picture books for children that explore the human-animal bond. The books will feature themes of animal advocacy and animal well-being. A portion of our book sales profits will be donated to shelters and animal rescue societies. The Gryphon Press was founded by Emilie Buchwald, who brings more than 25 years experience as a publisher and a longtime passion for animal advocacy to the enterprise. Retired in 2003 as founding publisher and editor from nationally renowned literary press Milkweed Editions, Buchwald has returned to publishing because of her realization that “children’s picture books about the realities of our relationships with animals, domestic and wild, are rarely represented in the crowded children’s book marketplace. Buchwald is filling that gap with distinctive children's titles.
The Gryphon Press’s Sit! Stay! Read! series showcases a range of important issues and ideas for dogs, including the joys as well as the responsibilities of dog ownership, teaching empathy to children, fostering, adoption, getting rid of puppy mills, choosing a dog for its entire life, therapy and service dogs, the intelligence of dogs, dealing with overpopulation.
